Mary Washington Asparagus Dormant Crown

One of the most widely grown heirloom varieties of Asparagus. This variety produces hardy stems that are more disease resistant, cold-tolerant, and forgiving than other varieties. Established asparagus plants produce about 1/2lb. of spears per bed foot in spring/early summer. If you are getting asparagus established for the first time, we recommend 5-10 crowns per person. (covers 15-30 row feet)  As soon as you get these plants, they must be planted. fertilize with a well-balanced fertilizer and water well. Bury the entire crown so that the tip of the crown is around 2 inches below the soil level. This will protect the crown from any cold weather. Do not harvest the first year.
